May 29-Flat Stanley Brayden’s Big Adventure Blog: Day 1 – Ready for Takeoff!

Hello, explorers! Welcome to the very first day of our Flat Stanley Brayden Adventure Blog, where you’ll join me—Flat Stanley Brayden—as I set off on an exciting journey from home all the way to France and beyond. Get ready for fun facts, travel tips, and a peek into what it’s like to travel across the world!

Today’s Mission:
Start our trip by heading to Dulles International Airport and boarding the plane to Iceland and then Paris, France!

Morning: Packing and Getting Ready

Before any big trip, it’s important to make a checklist. Here’s what I packed:

  • Passport (you always need this for international travel!)

  • Suitcase with clothes for all kinds of weather

  • Camera for taking lots of pictures

  • My favorite book for the plane ride

  • Flat Stanley Brayden (that’s me!) to join the adventure

Did you know?

Airports are like giant puzzle pieces that help people travel all over the world. Dulles International Airport, where we’re headed, is one of the busiest in the United States!

The Ride to Dulles Airport

The drive to the airport is always exciting. We are taking a van with others in our travel group. You get to see planes in the sky and imagine which one you’ll be on. Sometimes, there’s traffic, but that just gives you more time to play car games or look for cool license plates.

Fun Fact:
Dulles Airport is named after John Foster Dulles, who was a U.S. Secretary of State. It opened in 1962 and even has a special train called the AeroTrain to help people get to their gates!

At the Airport

Once we arrived, we checked our bags and went through security. There are lots of signs, so it’s like a real-life scavenger hunt to find your gate. I saw people from all over the world, and even some pilots in their uniforms.

Learning Moment:
Airports have their own “language” with codes and signs. For example, “IAD” is the code for Dulles International Airport. Can you find out what the code is for Paris’s airport?

Boarding the Plane

After waiting at the gate, it was time to board! The airplane is HUGE, with rows and rows of seats. I found my seat by the window—perfect for watching the clouds.

Travel Tip:
Always listen to the flight attendants. They show you how to buckle your seatbelt and what to do in case of an emergency.

Ready for Takeoff!

As the plane speeds down the runway, you feel a little rumble, and then—whoosh!—you’re up in the air. It’s like being in a giant flying bus, but way cooler.

Science Fact:
Airplanes fly because of something called “lift.” The shape of the wings helps push the plane up into the sky, even though it’s super heavy!

  • Imagine Flat Stanley Brayden riding on top of a suitcase as it glides down the airport conveyor belt, waving at travelers.

What’s Next?

Tonight, we’ll be flying overnight to Paris, France! I’ll try to sleep on the plane (but I might peek out the window to see the stars). Tomorrow, I’ll tell you all about landing in a new country and our first adventures in Paris.

Question for You:
If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would you go? What would you pack in your suitcase?

Stay tuned for more Flat Stanley Brayden adventures, and don’t forget to check back for photos from the airport and the plane!

Au revoir (that means “goodbye” in French) until tomorrow!
