Bonjour, explorers! Flat Stanley Brayden here, ready to share the first day of our river cruise adventure from Paris to Normandy. Today was packed with new discoveries, great food, and a special Paris surprise!
Arrival and Lunch on the Avalon Tapestry II
After saying goodbye to our Paris hotel, we took our bags to the dock and boarded our new floating home: the Avalon Tapestry II! The crew welcomed us aboard, and we dropped off our luggage in our cozy staterooms. Then it was time for a tasty lunch right on the ship. I loved watching the river while we ate and meeting other travelers who were just as excited as I was.

A Walk to the Paris Statue of Liberty
After lunch, we set off on foot for one last Paris adventure before our cruise began. We crossed a bridge over the Seine, and soon we reached something amazing—Paris’s very own Statue of Liberty! From the bridge, we could see both the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower in the same photo. Two world-famous landmarks together in one city—how cool is that?
Fun Fact:
Paris’s Statue of Liberty was a gift from Americans living in France and was finished before the one in New York Harbor. The statues are like family, each watching over their own river!

Can you find a spot in your town where two cool things are in the same picture?
Setting Sail – Our Cruise Begins!
By late afternoon, it was time to set sail. We waved goodbye to Paris as the ship glided away from the dock. The city looked magical from the water, with one last look at the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty in the distance.

Meeting the Crew and Safety First
Before we could start cruising, everyone gathered for a special safety briefing. The captain and crew explained what to do in an emergency and showed us where to find our life jackets.
Learning Moment:
Safety drills are important on any ship, just like fire drills at school!
We had a welcome dinner on board and met other travelers from all over the world. I tried French cheese and a yummy dessert called “tarte tatin.”
Fun Fact:
River cruises are a great way to see the countryside and visit small towns you might miss by car or train.

Question for You
If you could take a cruise anywhere in the world, where would you go? What would you want to see from the deck?
That’s all for today, fellow explorers! Tomorrow, we’ll visit our first stop on the river and start learning about French art and history. Stay tuned for more adventures with Flat Stanley Brayden!
Bonne nuit (good night) from your friend on the Seine!
